  • What are chemical peels?

    Medical Peels work by chemically removing the outermost layer of the skin causing an immediate rejuvenation as skin dullness, blotchiness, age and sun spots, and fine lines peel away.  Here at Kontour Medical Aesthetics, medical-grade professional peels are used during treatment.  Peels range in intensity from light to deep.  With a consultation, the appropriate facial peel treatment for you will be determined by a practitioner.

  • What are the types of peels available?

    Light Peel:


    10% lactic acid, 2% salicylic acid, 14% resorcinol

    This treatment is designed to regenerate and rejuvenate the skin with no downtime. Your skin will appear to be glowing, healthier and brighter. This peel treatment is a fantastic way to wake up the skin and start caring for it the way it deserves to be.


    Medium to Deep Peel:


    14% lactic acid, 14% salicylic acid, and 14% resorcinol

    This treatment is suitable for most people whether they are peeling for the first time or using peels as a maintenance program. You will get the BEST results when you combine this peel with a pharmaceutical grade skincare line. This treatment is designed to be aggressive and targets hyperpigmentation from the sun, minimizes fine lines, aids in dissipating blemishes, evens out skin texture and tone while minimizing pore size.

  • What can chemical peels treat?

    • Aging skin

  • How is the treatment performed?

    At Kontour Medical Aesthetics, our medical practitioners are able to perform light to deep chemical peels. Once the skin is prepped and cleansed, a patch test will be performed on a small section of the skin prior to the full application of the medical peel. Once the peel activates on the skin, a slight stinging/burning sensation will be experienced.  Skin will then appear lightly sunburned for up to 48 hours which is when the skin begins to peel. Medical peels are safe for many skin types and can be performed as early as every 6 weeks or as needed.

  • How long will I peel for?

    The amount of peel experienced will vary depending on the condition of the skin and the skin care products used.  Generally, one should not peel for longer than 2 weeks.

  • Pre-Procedure Care

    3 days before the treatment, refrain from:


    • Electrolysis, waxing, depilatory creams, and laser hair removal
    • Products containing Retinol, or prescription Retinoids (such as Retin-A, Renova, Differin (Adapalene 0.1%), Tazorac), Salicylic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Benzoyl Peroxide, or any product that exfoliates and may be drying or irritating

  • Post-Procedure Care

    • Once your light or deep chemical peel is complete, it is important to cleanse, nourish, and protect your skin, day and night.  
    • To cleanse, ensure your cleanser is mild, and gentle to remove impurities without disturbing the skin barrier. 
    • Hydration of your skin is essential post-treatment to soothe inflammation while simultaneously nourishing with antioxidants. Avoid using retinoids, topical acne medication, and Alpha/Beta Hydroxy Acids for 5 to 7 days after your peel because they can disrupt the healing process.  
    • Use a medical grade, ultra hydrating moisturizer to maintain moisture within the skin.  
    • Lastly, protect your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen that is formulated with UV protectors against UVA and UVB rays.  
    • Avoid prematurely peeling the skin off as this can damage the layer(s) of your skin.  

  • Downtime

    • Skin redness can last for 3 to 5 days. The length of time your skin may peel is generally between 5-7 days.  
    • The amount of skin that will slough off will vary depending on the condition of your skin and skin care products used.  However, the amount of peeling observed is not an indication of the effectiveness of the medical peel treatment. 
    • Avoid direct sun exposure for 2-3 weeks and throughout the course of your recommended treatment process.  Use a sunscreen SPF 25 or higher at all times when going out in the sunlight.
